His first appointment was in the department of prosthetics at Manchester Dental Hospital. After the acquisition of Portland Ceramics by Boots Dental Care, he set off attending and delivering lectures nationally and internationally including the Association of Dental Implantology and British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry.

As a reward for all his hard work and his positive influences in the industry John was awarded with the title of Fellow of the British Institute of Dental and Surgical Technologists in June 2005.
